Improvements in treatment have helped cut cancer death rates in half; rates fell an average of 2.1% per year between 2002 and 2004, twice the decline of the previous five years.

America’s pharmeuctical research companies are developing 750 new medicines that can treat or prevent many types of cancer in the future.

According to the American Cancer Society, more than 10 million Americans with a history of cancer are alive today because of advances in the detection and treatment of the disease.
